We are pleased to provide you with a proposal for your insurance. We welcome the opportunity to be your insurance advisor and believe you are entitled to know who we are and how we operate.
Our Role as Your Broker
We are an independent insurance broker. We work for you.
No insurance company or other financial institution has a controlling interest in our brokerage or can dictate what products we recommend to you.
We have contracts with insurance companies that allow us to represent them and sell their policies to you. We may also approach other insurance companies for special types of coverage when appropriate.
Insurance Companies We Commonly Use
For personal insurance products (such as home, tenant, condominium, and personal automobile insurance), we primarily work with the following insurers:

- Wawanesa Insurance
- Economical Insurance
- SGI
- Pafco
- Pembridge Insurance
- Travelers Insurance
- Nordic Facility Insurance
Where possible, we will obtain comparable quotes from insurance companies. We will advise you of all quotes received and explain your options. The choice of coverage and insurance company is yours, and we act on your direction.
Compensation Disclosure
A percentage of the premium you pay is retained by our firm as commission, in accordance with our agreements with both you as our client and the insurance carrier with whom your policy is placed.
Insurance carriers may also provide additional compensation at the end of the year if certain profitability levels are achieved.
If you would like to know the specific commission percentage applicable to your policy, please let us know and we will be happy to provide this information.
Recommendations and Conflicts of Interest
Upon reviewing your policy, if we make any significant recommendations that result in a substantial premium difference, we will explain the differences so you can make an informed decision.
Similarly, if our relationship with an insurance company could affect your insurance coverage or how we serve you, we will inform you.
Fees
We will advise you in writing of any fee charged in addition to the insurance premium. Any such fees will only be charged with your prior agreement.
Client Disclosure Obligations
To properly advise you, we ask many questions. For your insurance coverage to be valid, the information you provide must be accurate and truthful. We are required to disclose all relevant information to insurance companies on your behalf.
Privacy
We safeguard your personal information and use it only for its intended purpose or as required by law.
Dispute Resolution
If you have a disagreement with an insurance company, we will assist you in resolving the issue or direct you to alternative dispute resolution options.
Licensing
Grand River Insurance Brokers is licensed by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO), our governing regulatory body.
